Maternity shoot Amsterdam

What I am personally a huge fan of is low key lighting. I can imagine that not everyone is immediately familiar with the term “low key,” so let me explain what it is.
With low key lighting, you highlight exactly the body parts you want to emphasize in your photos. This could be a beautiful pregnant belly during a maternity shoot in Amsterdam, but it can also be used artistically during a fitness photoshoot*.
Creative ways to make out-of-the-box photos are my expertise! If you’re looking for a unique way to capture your pregnancy, this is a wonderful option.

What is a low key maternity shoot in Amsterdam?

As I mentioned above, a low key shoot is all about highlighting your beautiful curves during the session. By using lighting, we draw attention to the parts of your body that you want to show off. In the case of a maternity shoot, this is, of course, your beautiful round belly!
In the comfortable setting of my photo studio, we will work together to achieve a result so amazing that you’ll be proud to hang it on your wall at home. A wonderful memento of a special time (that flies by so quickly and you’ll love to look back on later!).

How does a maternity shoot in a photo studio work?

We’ll agree on a date for you to come to my studio in Zaandam, which is just north of Amsterdam. There’s free parking right at the door—super convenient. We’ll discuss beforehand what clothing you can bring, or if you’d like to use my client closet, which includes items like a black bandeau top and wrap skirt. You won’t need to bring much clothing for a low key maternity shoot in my studio since bare skin works best for this style. If it makes you more comfortable, you’re welcome to bring a friend or partner along, but coming alone is also perfectly fine. I often hear that people quickly feel at ease with me.

When will I see the photos?

During the shoot, I’ll show you the photos on my laptop screen as we go. This way, you can get an immediate idea of the final result and it also boosts your confidence during the shoot because with low key lighting, you’ll look fantastic right away, and I love to show you that during the session rather than afterward!
The happier and more confident you feel in front of my lens, the more amazing the photos will turn out! After the maternity shoot, I’ll edit the photos and within a week or two, I’ll send you an online gallery from which you can choose your favorites.

Tips for a successful maternity shoot in Amsterdam

Oh yes, one more thing worth mentioning: when we schedule a date for the shoot, I’ll also give you some tips for the day itself. For example, it’s a good idea not to wear tight clothing but to arrive in something like a tracksuit, so you don’t get any marks or lines on your skin from the clothing. If that does happen, I can remove them later during editing, but good preparation is half the battle. During the shoot, I’ll guide you through the poses, how to stand, how to position your hands, your belly, your expression, etc. I’ll help you wherever needed—you don’t need any experience for this at all!

Can I have photos taken with my partner during a maternity shoot in Amsterdam?

Yes, of course! That’s definitely possible. Taking photos together creates a whole different look, but one that will be incredibly meaningful later on, I think. So, as a couple, you’re absolutely welcome to be photographed together. I don’t have examples of this on the website, but if that’s something you’d like, feel free to mention it, and we’ll make it happen.

By the way, regarding the photos on this site: due to privacy, the beautiful woman in these images has been photographed in a way that keeps her anonymous. Naturally, when I photograph you for your own pictures, your beautiful face will be captured just as beautifully as the rest of your body. Whether it’s in silhouette or profile, your face will be stunningly highlighted.

How do I book a maternity shoot?

Feel free to send me an email or a What’s App message! Let me know your available dates, and I’ll confirm if I’m also available then. Evenings or weekends are no problem. A little tip: the best time to take maternity photos is between 30 and 35 weeks.

If you’re not ready to book yet and just want to ask for information, that’s perfectly fine too!

* Addition about fitness photography

On a totally different note, but still a nice addition about low key lighting: it can also work beautifully in fitness photography. It highlights muscular contours and creates a dramatic effect that underscores the strength of an athlete. Want to know more about the application of low key lighting in fitness photography?
